Participation makes a difference

QUEENS PARK and CHARMINSTER COMMUNITY FORUM is a non political  organisation which voices the concerns of the local community, and presents them to the appropriate authority - Borough Council, Police, Health Authority and so on.

We also use the collective professional skills of our members to advise others how to address issues that affect their daily lives.

Our public meetings deal with topics of interest or concern to the community. If there is something you would like raised we can normally get hold of the experts.

Judging by the attendance at the last Forum meeting, community spirit is alive and well in this part of the town.

Got a problem? Need some communal help? Tell us what you want.

Do come along to the next forum meeting and let us know your concerns and ideas of what you would like us to do together.

POST OFFICE HAS CLOSED

The Post Office has closed its branch at the Charminster Road Co-op. The shutters went down at midday on 29 October. The counters have been replaced by shelves of food.

The decision flies in the face of strongly expressed local feeling at public meetings and a well supported petition.

For more details, see the News page on the Winton Forum site.

Local History

Trace the way that Queens Park and Charminster have developed from heathland to the area we know today.

Read about some of the nearly forgotten things that were familiar to locals a century ago.

Learn about the famous people that lived around here and the way the area was transformed by war.

It's all there in our growing local history section.

Forging New Links and Promoting Community Spirit

The Queens Park and Charminster Community Forum is a platform enabling residents to have a greater say in shaping our community.

We welcome new ideas and opinions or alternatively if you are concerned about a local issue affecting you, there are always people available to offer advice and share information.

Collectively (aided by the appropriate agencies and professionals), improvements have included:

  • Traffic lines painted at dangerous cross roads.
  • Improved links with the Police.
  • Bikes for our P.C.S.O.’s.
    Removal of Graffiti.
  • Closure of an illegal Car Wash.
  • Advising residents on Planning issues resulting in several inappropriate developments being prevented.

The Forum would like to build on our successes linking with other Forums, pooling information, experience, goodwill, and improving our area.
